Osun Health Insurance Scheme (O’HIS) says it has enrolled 206,659 beneficiaries since its inception.
Chairman of the agency’s Governing Board, Mr Adeoye Adelakun, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen on Tuesday in Osogbo.
Adelakun said that the scheme commenced the enrollment of beneficiaries in 2019, adding that out of the figure, 89,148 were civil servants.
He also said that 2,203 people from informal sector had been enrolled in the scheme.
According to him, 40,181 vulnerable persons, under the Basic Health Care Provision Board, had been enrolled, while 31,212 vulnerable, under state equity, were also in the scheme.
Adelakun said that 43,915 students, under the Tertiary Institution Students Health Insurance Programme, had also joined the scheme.
He added that more than 30,420 vulnerable persons from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Osun Waste Management Agency would soon be brought on board.
Adelakun also said that the agency, in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, had commenced the enrollment of the inmates at government orphanages and correctional centres.
He said that 102 private and public health care providers had been accredited by the scheme and were providing health care services to the beneficiaries.
Adelakun said while government was paying three per cent counterpart fund, the civil servants were paying 1.5 per cent of their basic salary to be able to access premium health-packaged insurance scheme.
He stressed that the essence of the scheme was to make healthcare delivery available and affordable to the people.
According to him, the agency usually pays capitation and fees form service to all the accredited service providers and third party administrators (HMOs and CSOs) as and when due.
Also speaking, Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr Niyi Oginni, said that the agency had put measures in place to ensure that health care providers did not discriminate against any of the OHIS patients.
Oginni said that one of the health care providers was recently delisted due to the hospital’s bad attitude towards OHIS patients.
He said that the agency would continue to provide affordable and quality healthcare to all its enrollees.
Oginni commended the state government for creating enabling environment for the successful implementation of the scheme through the establishment of the governing board. (NAN)
