A non governmental organization, Global Peace Development (GPD) has trained 24 women and girls on leadership in Adamawa state.
The two-day training workshop which held at Mubi North Local Government Secretariat was part of the activities designed for the “Constructive Engagement and Women Strengthening to Mitigate Conflict and Violent Extremism in Adamawa state” project, funded by the Nigeria Northeast Connection.
The participants were drawn from the Women Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), Influential Young Grils and Teachers from Demsa, Mubi North and Mubi South local government areas of the State.
Speaking on the reasons for the training workshop , the Executive Director of GPD, Ebruke Esike said women are often left to bear the brunt of violent conflict hence the need to train them to become actors of social change and active members of the local peace and security architecture in their various communities in an effort to mitigate violent conflict and extremism in Adamawa state.
Esike, while charging participants to use the knowledge imparted in them, called on parents to do more towards good parenting as it is a determinant of a better and more disciplined society.
The E.D thanked the donor partner, Nigeria North East Connection for funding the project as he assured of the participants’ growth and transformation by the end of the workshop.
Most of the women leaders identified gender based violence and rape amongst major problems faced by women.
The participants were engaged in discussion sessions on mentoring and mentorship, understanding leadership , advocacy , sustainability of women peace and mediators platform among others by Olutoyin Falade and Mr Ebruke Esike.
