The police in Lagos on Tuesday arraigned four men in Badagry for alleged stealing and receiving of 778.5 litres of diesel worth N546,150.
The defendants – Christopher Akapo, 37; Johnson Oluwole, 39; Rosui Ayodele,43; and Tope Obembe, 40; whose addresses were not provided, are standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and receiving of stolen diesel.
The prosecutor, ASP Clément Okuoimose, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Jan. 5, at 1:00a.m at Age-Mowo in Badagry.
Okuoimose said that Akapo, Oluwole and Ayodele stole the diesel meant for ATC Airtel mast.
“Few hours later, the fourth defendant, Obembe, received the stolen item from them knowing it to be stolen.
“They were caught during the transaction and handed over to the police for prosecution,” he said.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 328 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Fadaunsi Adefioye, granted the first three defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
