Gombe State Government has approved the recruitment of 2,000 teachers through the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Mr Babaji Babadidi, Executive Chairman of Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Friday that the recruitment would be in batches.
Babadidi, also member of the recruitment committee, said 1,000 teachers would be recruited in the first instance, while a second batch of another 1,000 teachers would be recruited six months after.
He said the staggered recruitment was to ensure that the teachers did not all retire at the same time.
“If we recruit them at the same time, they will retire at the same time,’’ he stressed.
He said the committee would place emphasis on graduates in Education and that those without such qualification would be given the opportunity to upgrade themselves while in service.
On nomadic education, Babadidi said that SUBEB 2021/2022 programme, made adequate provision for additional classrooms.
He noted that the board was, however, waiting for approval from the government.
According to him, the existing nomadic schools are overstretched following the influx of Internally Displaced Persons from the neighbouring states and other parts of the country.
Babadidi also told NAN that the National Commission for Nomadic Education had built classrooms and employed teachers in some schools for nomads in the state. (NAN)
