The Nigeria Security And Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) command has deployed 3,000 personnel for the council election on Feb. 12.
The FCT Commandant, Mr Peter Maigari, said this in a statement issued by the Corps Spokesperson, Mrs Comfort Okomanyi, on Friday in Abuja.
Maigari said the NSCDC was fully ready for the election as one of the security agencies drafted to provide security during the election.
According to him, the Nigeria Police Force is the lead agency as far as election security is concerned.
He, however, said the NSCDC and the other components who part of the election security committee, would offer support.
“Although the command will be deploying a total of 3,000 personnel, more personnel will be deployed to protect critical infrastructure and national assets.
“Equally, some other supporting units will assist in the provision of security. Interestingly, the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Audi, has supported the command with vehicular logistics.
“Also, other equipment that will be needed for the election will be deployed so that we will have a free, fair and credible exercise,” he said.
The FCT commandant urged officers and men that would be involved in the exercise to ensure strict observance of the code of conduct for security personnel.
He urged the key political actors and their supporters to shun violence, conduct themselves in an orderly and peaceful manner as the election was not a do or die affair.
“Violence will not be tolerated, even in celebration for those who will win, let them be magnanimous in their victory, to accommodate those whom they feel have lost,” he said.
Maigari added that the election was between brothers and sisters, so there was no point for violence. (NAN)
