An Italian court has overruled the parents of a two-year-old who wished that their son should receive a transfusion of blood from an unvaccinated donor against Coronavirus while undergoing a heart operation.
The juvenile court ruled that the planned operation could go ahead in a hospital in Bologna, with the social services taking over provisional custody of the child, the ANSA news agency reported on Thursday.
The court in Modena made its ruling on Tuesday in a case that has drawn nationwide attention since the conflict arose at the beginning of the month.
The parents had based their wish on religious grounds, their lawyer said.
At the start, the parents presented the hospital with a list of about 40 willing blood donors who had not been vaccinated. (dpa/NAN)
