A former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe Tuesday picked the expression of interest form for the office of the Governor of Delta State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking to newsmen shortly after picking the form, Orubebe pledged equal opportunities for the people of the oil rich State.
The former Minister said, “Over the years, in the past seven years and half or there about, we have a governor that has done very well and I am coming to take over from him to add value to what he has also done in the state.”
He also assured the people that when voted in he would re-engineer and orientate the state, “to bring to bear in Delta state, the Delta sate of my dream where anybody can become a leader, can become many things so long as you rely fully on God.”
According to him, “The three things you need to have to become what you want to become in Delta State, number one, having a vision and stay focus on the vision , number two, working hard and having commitment and number three, total fear of God. These are the three pillars on which I want to develop Delta State.
“And we are going to have a Delta State of equal opportunities where everybody will work together as one group of people.”
He also stressed that “God didn’t make mistake calling that geographical area Delta State and so we don’t have any reason to argue or do things that will cause disaffection. Deltans have duty to work together because it is God that said we must come together. And that is why my slogan says “Deltans must work together.” Every other thing-the agricultural development, infrastructural, education, health, those things were given. But we are going to operate from a very solid foundation and by the grace of God, we will deliver in Delta. After three years, by the time you come to Delta State you will see what we are going to add to where Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan will stop in May 29, 2015.”
On his chances, he said, ” I am a grassroots politician and I am an experience man. I’m a man with experience and experience is something you cannot buy. I am a born politician. I started as a Councillor, from councillor to Chairman of Local Government Council, then board Director, Adviser to the Governor, state Chairman of a political party and minister for six years and three months, which has never happened in the history of this country. You understand that God has deposited a lot of knowledge in me and that is what I want to deposit in Delta State. and there is no aspirant that is more qualified and experienced than Elder Godsday Peter Orubebe”.
The former Minister left the PDP secretariat for the Living Faith Church, Jahi for “one hour with the Lord” where he praised and thanked God.
Defending his action, he said the essence was to commit the new journey unto God who has given him the backing, saying “I cannot go to another place than here and thank my father for another journey.
