The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in Edo Command said on Friday that it recorded no fewer than 149 deaths in road traffic accidents across the state in 2021.
Mr Henry Benamaisia, Sector Commander of the Corps in the state said this in in Benin during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Benamaisia said the figure was 15.3 per cent decrease from 2020 when the Command recorded 176 deaths in road traffic accidents.
He also said that within the period under review 1,434 persons were involved in road traffic accidents across the state.
According to him this is as against the 1,618 persons recorded in 2020, adding that compared to the previous year, the figure represents 11.4 per cent decrease.
“In 2021 we recorded 235 Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs), against 251 recorded in the preceding year of 2020, and this represents a 6.4 per cent decrease.
“Within the same period under review 527 persons were injured as against 612 recorded in 2020. This indicates a 13.9 per cent decrease,” he said.
The Sector Commander said that within the period under review, 432 vehicles were involved in RTCs, against 421 in 2020, which comparatively represents 2.5 per cent increase.
He appealed to Nigerians, particularly residents of the state, to always be road safety conscious. (NAN)
