By Olusegun Lawrence Nigeria’s Senate has assured that the 2015 Appropriation Bill would be passed into law before the end of 2014.
In his welcome address at the resumption of plenary after the Eid el-Kabir break, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, who gave the assurance also said two bills- the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, and the Constitutional Review Amendment Bill would enjoy accelerated hearing.
However, the letter from President Goodluck Jonathan on the Medium Term Expenditure Framework for the 2015 and the Fiscal Responsibility Act was not read on the floor.
The Senate adopted the report of the Committee on Education on the establishment of Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, thus giving the institution legal backing.
The report states that the University shall offer to student all courses in Petroleum Technology provided that overseas course will be sponsored by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund and other government agencies only in respect of those courses that not available at the University upon certification to that effect by the University.
