Centre for Freedom and Social Justice on Thursday in Abuja urged the Nigerian Police and other security agencies to ensure the rescue of Obiora Agbasimalo from kidnappers’ before Christmas.
Agbasimalo was the candidate of the Labour Party in the Nov. 6 governorship election in Anambra.
He was abducted on Sept. 18 alongside his security aide while on a campaign trail from Ezinifitte to Azia in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra.
The coordinator declared that Agbasimalo must be rescued and reunited with his family before Dec. 25 to celebrate Christmas with his family.
He urged the police to speak out and tell the family, colleagues, friends and associates of Agbasimalo what happened to their son.
“The Police in Anambra must explain to us what happened to Agbasimalo; who kidnapped him and what was the reason for his abduction.
“These and more are the questions we are asking.
“We call on the police to ensure the freedom of Agbasimalo before Christmas Day,” he said.
Salawu noted that the abductors were yet to make contact with the family or demand for ransom.
According to him, several groups and CSOs have been calling on the police and other security agencies to ensure Agbasimalo’s rescue.
“A group has sent a petition to President Muhammadu Buhari and other security agencies to expedite action with a view to unravelling the mystery,” Salawu said. (NAN)
