The Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, says it has graduated no fewer than 5,145 students with 53 First Class, in its 10th and 11th convocation ceremony.

Prof. Olugbenga Ige, Vice-Chancellor of the university, made this known at a news conference on Monday in Akungba-Akoko.

Ige said 61 academic programmes had been fully accredited by the National University Commission (NUC).

The vice-chancellor said that no fewer than six credible higher institutions in Nigeria had subscribed to the institution’s programme through affiliation.

He said that the institution was committed to the vision and mission of the founding fathers to bring out the best in it for the benefit of the society.

Ige said that training and re-training of academic and non-teaching staff members for optimal performance had also been put in place.

According to him, this year convocation ceremony is inimitable in two fronts.

“Foremost, I am superintending as the 6th substantive vice-chancellor; secondly, is the combination of two graduating sets of 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 academic sessions.

“We are presenting 5,145 graduands at the this 10th and 11th convocation, with Faculty of Education having 1,415 followed by Faculty of Science, 924; Faculty of Social and Management Science, 1,061; Faculty of Agriculture, 156; Faculty of Arts, 748 and Faculty of Law, 181.

“The Institute of Education has 307; Institute of Part-time Programmes (231) and Diploma (13), while 356 graduands are receiving Post-graduate Degrees, 25 of whom are in the PhD category.

“Of these figures, 53 made First Class; 1,511 earned Second Class (Upper Division), 2,861 bagged Second Class (Lower Division) 667 had Third Class, while 40 are with Pass,” he said.

According to him, between 2019 till date, 20 of our academic have benefited from TETFund post-graduate sponsorship in various universities across the world and over 33 from research grants and conference attendance,” he said.

The vice-chancellor, therefore, promised to continue to support the gifted, indigent, and physically challenged students through the students’ Support Centre, which administers and oversees scholarship and financial aid.

On the university’s research, Ige said that an assemblage of researchers had reached an advanced stage in producing disease and drought-resistant beans and tomatoes.

He said that other researchers were on the verge of producing a potent anti-termite solution from a common local plants.

The VC said that the university has technologically-driven programme, pointing out that it had created e-learning platform for effective academic contacts between lecturers and students to enhance teaching and learning process.

“As a university and a new administration, we are repositioning our university, having our eyes on the future.

“We have a staunch commitment to the vision and mission of our founding fathers,” he said. (NAN)
