From Harry Awurumibe in Awka, Anambra
A Board Member of Civil Society Organisation (CSO), YIAGA Africa, Comrade Ezenwa Nwagwu has called on the people of Anambra state to come out en masse on Saturday, November 6, 2021 to cast their votes for their preferred candidate without any hindrance.
Nwagwu who is a known voice in the promotion of democratic governance, human rights and civic engagement, has also warned that should the people of Anambra state fail to the bait of some unpatriotic elements to use fake news to intimidate them to stay away from casting their votes to the candidates of their choice, they should not come back to complain if the wrong person becomes their new governor after the November 6 election.
Speaking on the sideline of the Election Stakeholders Meeting with the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu; Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali; CSOs; Governorship Candidates and the leadership of 18 political parties in Awka, Nwagwu posited that the people of Anambra state have a good opportunity now to vote in the governor of their choice.
According to the social crusader: “Anambra state is notoriously known for voter apathy in all the governorship elections held in the state since 1999. This is a fact that cannot be denied as none of their governors have been elected with over 600,000 votes.
“This time around, the determination of ‘Ndi Anambra’ to come out en masse to vote will change the narrative and portray the people of Anambra state in good light”.
Nwagwu however disagreed with the notion that the federal government deployment of over 35, 000 Police personnel to Anambra state will scare voters away, arguing that “the presence of the security agencies should give Ndi Anambra the courage to come out en masse to vote “.
