The embattled Chairman of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus may have been given a soft-landing as the National Working Committee (NWC) which he leads will serve out its tenure on December 9, 2021.
This assurance was given in Abuja today by Governor Umar Ahmadu Finitiri of Adamawa state who is the Chairman of 2021 PDP National Convention Committee ahead of the expected judgement of Appeal Court Port Harcourt Division which was still being awaited as at the time of this report.
Finitiri who spoke with journalists at PDP Legacy House Secretariat disclosed that the former ruling party has not tampered with Secondus-led NWC which will still be calling the shots until December 9 terminal date of its mandate.
According to him: “I want to clear the doubt about the PDP National Convention this weekend. It was agreed by all the party’s stakeholders to hold the Convention to enable the new leaders to interface with the out-going NWC for a seamless transition to put PDP in a better footing to contest the 2023 General Elections in Nigeria”.
Governor Finitiri insists that: “nobody is saying that the NWC led by Secondus should not serve out its tenure. Infact, the in-coming NWC will takeover on December 9, 2021”.
Meanwhile, Governor Finitiri has assured Nigerians that the PDP National Convention will hold tomorrow and Sunday, pointing out that everything required for a smooth conduct of the Convention has been put in place.
Said he: ” All is set for the PDP National Convention starting from Saturday, October 30 and Sunday 31. All the positions to be contested for have all been filled except three. And we are making efforts to reconcile the contestants for the remaining three post before tomorrow”.
” The three offices to be contested for are the post of Deputy National Chairman, South; National Auditor and the Youth Leader. Aside these, there are no contest for other positions especially the National Secretary post.
” It was zoned to South East and then micro-zoned to Imo and Abia states. They have agreed on their candidate”.
The Governor also revealed that 3,600 delegates will attend the Convention which will hold at the Eagle Square Abuja.
