The Kwara chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has confirmed the appointment of Prince Oladimeji Thompson as the new state Pillar of Sports.
The Secretary of the association, Mr. Olayinka Owolewa, announced this in a statement on Thursday in Ilorin.
It said Thompson was considered for the post because of his enormous contributions towards the activities of the association over the years.
“We are delighted to announce Prince Thompson as our new Kwara Pillar of Sports.
“He has been very instrumental to the upliftment of Sports in Kwara over the years and has never turned his back at the association whenever his services are needed.
“The former Chairman of Kwara United FC of Ilorin, twice promoted the team to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and has been instrumental to the development of Beach Soccer in the state.
“These are few of the reasons we feel he deserves such honour,” the statement read in part.
It also recalled that Thompson was instrumental to the staging of the association’s last edition of the SWAN Media Games. (NAN)
