An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that Ebenezer Olamide (24) and Oladipo Kolade (31) be remanded at the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti for alleged rape of a minor.
The defendants of unknown addresses were facing a one-count charge of rape.
The Prosecuting counsel, Mrs Shirley Atane, from Ekiti State Ministry of Justice, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Sept. 27, in Ado-Ekiti.
Atane alleged that the defendants allegedly defiled a 16-year-old girl.
She told the court that the victim narrated her ordeal to the police.
The counsel said that the victim told the police that the defendants around 2:00 p.m on the said date jumped into their compound and both had sex with her in her mother’s room while she travelled.
According to her, the offence contravenes Section 2 (2) of the Ekiti State Gender Based Violence (Prohibition) Amended Law, 2019.
She urged the court to remand the defendant in the correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The pleas of the defendants were not taken.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, ordered the remand of the defendants at the correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice.
He adjourned the case until Nov. 9, for mention. (NAN)
