A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered the remand of a 32-year-old labourer, Sani Abubakar, who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s 9-year-old daughter.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, who did not take Abubakar’s plea, ordered that he should be remanded in a correctional centre.
Emmanuel, however, directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
He adjourned the case until Oct. 29 for DPP’s advice.
Abubakar, who resides at Malali, Kaduna State, is being tried for defilement.
The prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that Abubakar committed the offence on Sept. 28
Leo said that the defendant had carnal knowledge of the girl in his room after returning from an errand he sent her.
The prosecutor added that the defendant was arrested when the mother questioned the 9-year-old on why she was not walking normally and she told her of what the defendant did to her.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 137 of the Penal Law of Kaduna State, 2017(NAN)
