A Magistrate Court sitting in Abakaliki on Wednesday remanded a man, Ndidi Mbam, 33, in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Mbam was remanded in custody for allegedly stealing two motorcycles belonging to Mbam Dennis and Idenyi Chigbogu of Mgbala Ukwu Iboko in Izzi Local Government Area of the state.
The Prosecuting counsel, Mrs Linda Nneka, had told the court that the defendant committed the crime on Aug. 16, at Onwe-Onwega, Mgbala Ukwu Iboko in Izzi Local Government Area.
Nneka said that the defendant was facing a three-count charge bordering on stealing.
“Mbam committed felony to wit: stealing of two motorcycles, CG 125 and Mate 80 Yamaha CY.
“He committed an offence contrary to Section 517(A) Criminal Code, Act. CAP 38 laws of the federation of Nigeria 2004.
“The CG Motorcycle is valued at N150,000 while Yamaha CY Motorcycle is valued at N120,000,” she stated.
The Defence counsel, Mr Gilbert Utobo, moved for the bail application of his client, which was, however, opposed by the prosecuting counsel, Nneka, saying the defendant had broken out of the cell before he was re-arrested.
Utobo had argued that granting the defendant bail would be in the interest of justice.
The Magistrate, Mrs Blessings Chukwu, in her ruling ordered that the defendant be remanded in NSCDC custody.
She adjourned the matter until Sept. 27, for hearing. (NAN)
