Those planning to foment troubles or disrupt the smooth conduct of the November 6 Anambra state gubernatorial election should think twice as the Federal Government is determined to ensure robust deployments to forestall them from carrying out their threat.
This assurance was given on Thursday by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd) at the 3rd Quarterly Meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) held at Conference Hall of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
The NSA who was represented by Mr. Sanusi Galadima at the meeting called by INEC ahead the Isoko Constituency Bye-election in Delta State and the Anambra guber election warned that government will not tolerate any form of sabotage in the country.
Said the NSA: “In furtherance of the coordinating mandate of the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA), we are poised to ensure robust deployments before, during and after the polls, with a view to countering any threats and ensuring peaceful conduct of the polls, especially in the forthcoming off-cycle Anambra State Gubernatorial Election”.
The NSA also assured INEC of the readiness of the security agencies to corporate with the Commission to suppress any obstacle that will stop it from delivering credible elections in Nigeria.
According to Monguno: “with the prevalence of security threats occasioned by different dissidents separatist groups in the Southern region of the country, who are bent in scuttling efforts of government in achieving national cohesion and undermining the democratic processes in the country, the Federal Government of Nigeria will not tolerate any group or persons planning to impede smooth conduct of elections”.
