The Niger State Government on Thursday approved N22 million for its participation at the 2021 National Youth Games (NYG) in Ilorin, Kwara.
The games is scheduled to hold from Oct. 10 to Oct. 19.
Mr Emmanuel Umar, the state Commissioner for Youth Affairs and Sports Development, stated this in Minna, while assessing the state contingent’s preparations for the games.
“We are fully ready for this year’s NYG in Ilorin.
“The state governor, Alhaji Abubakar Bello has graciously approved N22 million for us out of the N25 million we applied for and the money is on ground,” he said.
Umar said that seven million of the fund would be use during the campaign for the North Central zonal elimination games in Ilorin from Sept. 3 to Sept. 7.
He said that the balance of N15 million would be spent on the main event.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the zonal games would determine the number of events each state in the zone would participate in during the NYG.
He said that the state contingent to the zonal games would leave for Ilorin on Friday with 71 athletes and 25 officials.
The Commissioner said that during the zonal games, the state would participate in seven events which include beach volleyball, volleyball, cricket, basketball, hockey, handball and football.
He said that the approved funds would be used to pay the allowances of athletes and officials, purchase equipment, cater for medical consumables and transport. (NAN)
