Ekiti Government has approved the sum of N7.6 billion for road construction, rehabilitation and development of infrastructure in the state.
Mr Akin Omole, the Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, said this in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday.
Omole said that the approval was part of the resolutions at the State Weekly Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.
The commissioner said that N92.2 million was earmarked for the construction of Ikole township roads, while N4.3 billion was also approved for the construction of the Ado-Iworoko road.
“The sum of N2.3 billion was approved for the construction of bus terminals and pedestrian walkway-drain covers, along Ijigbo road to Okeiyinmi roundabout in Ado-Ekiti,’’ Omole said in a statement.
The commissioner said that the contractors handling the roads had been given a timeline of between 10 and 12 months to complete the projects.
He said that the approval for the award of contracts followed due process and diligent vetting by the Bureau of Public Procurement.
According to him, this is a demonstration of the commitment of Gov. Kayode Fayemi’s administration to advance economic and industrial revolution in the state.
Omole expressed optimism that the strategic road projects would augur well and promote the enabling environment for businesses and investments to thrive.
“It will also aid the safety and security of lives and property of the residents,” he said.
He solicited the support and understanding of the residents, especially motorists and commuters plying the affected roads throughout the period of the construction works.
Omole also used the opportunity to remind the residents to adhere strictly to traffic diversions and regulations, saying such would assist in ensuring timely completion of the projects. (NAN)
