The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Lawal Abubakar, on familiarisation visits to paramilitary formations, has solicited their cooperation in the sustenance of security and safety in the state.
Abubakar also sought for the consolidation of existing partnership and support of the paramilitary security agencies in containing existing and emerging acts of crime and criminality.
This is contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu.
The commissioner visited the State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Anietie Idim, and the Controller of Corrections, Enugu State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Mr Godwin Onokohwomomo.
Other paramilitary formations visited included the Area Comptroller, Nigerian Customs Service Enugu/Anambra/Ebonyi Area Command, Mrs Maria Baya, and the Sector Commander, FRSC Enugu State Command, Mr Joseph Udoabba.
The commissioner said: “It is only through collaborative efforts that we can achieve our common goal of providing public security and safety in the state.
“We must work together to tap and gain from each individual agency’s strength through partnership, joint patrols and brainstorming meetings as well”.
Responding, the paramilitary agencies assured the new commissioner of their maximum support and collaboration.
In his remarks, the NDLEA Commander, Idim, emphasised the need for strengthened synergy.
“When we realise that the provision of security and safety for the citizenry is our collective responsibility and synergise to make that happen, then we can succeed together,” the commander said.
On his part, the Controller of Corrections, Onokohwomomo, appreciated the Nigeria Police for the support they had been according his Command.
“We are committed to ensuring a sustained relationship with the Nigeria Police,” he said.
In her remark, the Area Comptroller of Customs, Baya, expressed readiness to collaborate with the police to achieve public security and safety in the state.
Those who accompanied the commissioner on the familiarisation visits included: Mr Ahmed Garba, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Mr Fidelis Ogarabe, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of State CID, Mr Seyi Okenla, Area Commander of Police, Enugu Metro, CSP Princewill Ijeoma, Commander of Special Protection Unit, Enugu, and SP Abdulkareem Adewale, Commander, Counter Terrorism Unit, Enugu, among others.
