The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Centre for Ethical Rebirth Among Nigerian Youths (CERANY), an NGO, are to jointly embark on a nationwide campaign against drug abuse and insecurity.
Mr Chuks Akamadu, President, CERANY said in a statement on Friday in Abuja, that the move was in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the NGO, scheduled for Nov. 2.
Akamadu said the initiative by CERANY, was in furtherance of the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari on June 26.
He added that the initiative was tagged: “Maj.-Gen. IBM Haruna Nationwide Campaign Against Drug Abuse and Insecurity”.
This, Akamadu said, was in honour of its octogenarian Grand Patron, retired Maj.-Gen. IBM Haruna, who would be leading the campaign.
He said the campaign was in line with aspirations of the 2015-2019 National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP).
Akamadu said the sensitisation and advocacy, would take CERANY and NDLEA to the 36 states of the federation and the FCT for optimal outcomes.
“CERANY notes with delight, the emerging robust engagement between the NDLEA and non-state actors, which is already yielding visible fruits, ” he said.
Akamadu urged the Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, to continue his unprecedented efforts against drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the country.
He assured the armed forces and security agencies of CERANY’s support, in winning the war against insecurity.
According to him, this is by working assiduously with relevant stakeholders, for a drastic reduction in drug demand, supply and consumption.
Akamadu also said that such were partly responsible for the current state of insecurity in the country.
He lauded President Buhari for setting up the Presidential Advisory Committee on Elimination of Drug Abuse (PACEDA). (NAN)
