The Kaduna Government says, as part of measures to contain the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and safeguard the well being of the people, it has tested 147,088 residents from April 2020 to date.
Dr Amina Mohammed-Baloni, the State Commissioner for Health, disclosed this on Thursday during a press conference in Kaduna.
Analysing the exercise, Mohammed-Baloni said of the figure , 9,201 cases were confirmed positive as at Aug. 18, 2021, while 9,121 have been treated and discharged. Sixty-six deaths were recorded so far.
The commissioner said currently the state has 10 active cases.
Mohammed-Baloni said all the 23 local government areas of the state were affected by the virus and the metropolitan areas have the highest cases.
She, however, disclosed that the state recorded high cases in male than female.
“Most of the cases recorded are highly mobile residents ranging from ages 25 to 45.”
She also said the state recorded 99.8 per cent success rate in managing the cases.
“We have managed to keep cases down and we are grateful with the achievement so far.”
The Commissioner confirmed that the state government received over 200,000 doses of vaccine for frontline health workers, essential duty staff and vulnerable people in phase 1.
She, however, noted that the state is yet to receive the second badge of the vaccine from the Federal Government.
She said the ministry has continued surveillance at the points of entry to avoid more cases.
The commissioner said that the state had five COVID-19 testing laboratories for Polymerase Chains Reaction (PCR) and 12 gene expert machines where tests are being done.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the government is also planning to secure one million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine for its residents.
In February, the Kaduna State Government signed an MoU with a medical delivery firm, Zipline, to use a drone for the shipment of the vaccines.
She urged residents to make concerted efforts to adhere strictly to all the existing COVID-19 protocols. (NAN)
