The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has commenced First Aid and Basic Disaster Management training for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Borno.
Flagging-off of the training in Maiduguri on Wednesday, the North East NEMA Zonal Coordinator, Madam Lydia Wagami, said the training was for Corps members who chose to be Emergency Management Vanguard (EMV) during their service year.
Wagami said such Corps members are expected to serve as volunteers with the Red Cross Society members, particularly at the grassroots whenever there is any call for emergency.
She said that they are also expected to communicate any emergency situation they notice in the communities they are doing their primary assignment to NEMA for quick intervention.
In his remarks, the NYSC Schedule Officer for EMV, Alhaji Abdulhamid Usman, lauded NEMA for the training programme which, he said, was timely particularly at this critical period of flooding.
Usman who reiterated the commitment of the NYSC to continue to partner with NEMA in building the capacity of Corps members on first aid and basic Disaster management, tasked beneficiaries of the training to pay keen attention to enable them benefit from the life-saving training.
Highlights of the occasion was the presentation of an overview on Disaster Management by Mannir Gidado, the NEMA Zonal Head of Planning, and display of Search and Rescue equipment. (NAN)
