Alhaji Gambo Lawan, the Chairman, Ward Congress Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, has described the last Saturday ward congress in the state as 100 per cent successful.
Lawan told newsmen on Monday at the party secretariat in Ibadan that the reports received across the state revealed that the exercise was successful.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the APC in Oyo State had adopted consensus approach in the Ward Congress held across the country on Saturday.
Lawan said that the congress was conducted across the 351 wards in the state without complaint or petition from any of the stakeholders.
“It was done fairly, peacefully and credibly. Let me tell you as I am sitting down here, I have not received any single petition from anybody. I have not received complaints from anybody.
“So, all what I will say is that, it is 100 per cent success. Everybody is satisfied.
“I have contacted all the stakeholders individually and everybody said it was fair.
“It was clean, it was done well. So, I have discharged my duty with my committee,” he said.
Lawan said that the results had been received and would be submitted at the national secretariat.
He said that the cooperation enjoyed from all the stakeholders, coupled with their transparency and fairness, accounted for the success recorded.
“When I met the stakeholders, I briefed them on our mission, read the guidelines to them and individually, we interacted for hours, and agreed on the modalities for the congress.
“And in the guidelines, the party said as much as possible, we needed consensus. All the party stakeholders unanimously agreed on consensus,” he said.
Also, Chief Akin Oke, the State Chairman of APC Caretaker Committee, commended the Lawan-led committee for their dogged, transparent and honest approach in conducting the exercise.
Oke recounted how the chairman arrived Ibadan and met all the stakeholders at the party secretariat, saying that they never experienced such transparency from the previous committees.
“I really appreciate him, because I have had several congresses since I became chairman. For the first time, we had a fine gentleman and fine team.
“The last time in 2019, the person who came to conduct the congress stopped by in Ogun State, that was the beginning of how we lost the election,” he said.
Oke expressed satisfaction from the reports received from all the wards, saying that there was no complaints or grievances from any quarter. (NAN)
