The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Bauchi state, says it has begun training of 200 corps members as enumerators, for the Home Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSFD) of the Federal Government.
Mr Timin Lazarus, the Schedule Officer, HGSFD, NYSC, Bauchi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi, on Wednesday.
According to him, the training was sequel to directives given to the scheme to select and train no fewer than 200 corps members in the state as enumerators, to fast-track enrollment of pupils into the NGSFD in the state.
Lazarus, who explained that the corps members would be trained on data capture of all the people involved, in accredited public primary schools, said the exercise would assist the government in making effective policies, as well as take informed decisions on the programme’s implementation.
He highlighted those whose data would be captured in the accredited schools to include; pupils from primary one to three, the cooks, parents, head teachers and other stakeholders.
“Bauchi was allocated 200 and we have trained 103 so far, today we will train another 27, tomorrow we will train 31 and we will train another 39 on Friday.
“After the training, we will wait for the date to commence the actual exercise because the timetable has already been drafted. When the forms are completely distributed to the beneficiaries, then corps members will swing into action to start the enumeration.
“This exercise will definitely enable the government to make informed and effective policies, and decisions regarding the programme,” he said.
On the modalities for the selection of the trainee corps members, Lazarus said that NYSC field officers in each of the state’s 20 local government areas, were charged with the responsibility of selecting the best out of the corps members.
He advised those selected to be sincere and patriotic in the discharge of their assigned responsibilities, for the exercise to achieve the purpose for which it was introduced. (NAN)
