The All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Chairman in Oyo State, Chief Akin Oke, has reiterated the commitment of his leadership to the conduct of peaceful party congresses in the state.
He made the pledge on Tuesday while receiving members of the Oyo APC Councilors Forum at the party secretariat in Ibadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the APC National Secretariat had announced July 31 for the commencement of the congresses at the Ward level.
“Once again, we congratulate you and every other members of your ALGON on the victory recorded against the Makinde administration which sacked you from office illegally.
“Without mincing words, we recognise you all as integral parts of the party in the state and we can assure you that you would always get the right treatment as desired,” he said.
The chairman urged the former officials of local government councils to return to their respective wards and start mobilising the electorates ahead of the 2023 general election since the current PDP administration had failed by all indices.
The forum led by Hon. Adesoji Adesokan, expressed its members gratitude to the leadership of the party for the roles played in the litigation challenging the ousting of the local government elected executives by Gov. Seyi Makinde’s administration.
“The success recorded at the Supreme Court on May 7 could not have been possible without the support of late Gov. Abiola Ajimobi, Former Gov. Adebayo Alao-Akala, Chief Akin Oke and other eminent leaders of our great Party.
“It is worthy of note that the Akin Oke-led State Executive Committee did everything possible to encourage our legal team and other key players throughout the time which the litigation lasted.
“We are indeed grateful to all lovers of democracy and the rule of law in the society, who stood by us. We also appreciate the likes of Mr Faozey Nurudeen who supported us in all ramifications,” he said.
Adesokan also appealed to the party leadership to mobilise resources and ensure that the party emerged from the forthcoming congresses without rancour.
He said that the party had demonstrated to the whole world that democracy needed to succeed in Nigeria.
“We have come today to validate the popular rating of Oke-led exco as the best thing to have happened to any political party in the history of democracy in the country.
“Apart from our victory at the Apex Court which was facilitated by the state leadership of the party, another unprecedented feat recorded is the construction of a new state secretariat.
“It is on this premise that we have come here today to present an award plague in recognition and appreciation of the lasting legacy erected by our father, Chief Akin Oke, and his wonderful exco,” the forum’s coordinator said. (NAN)
