The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to train drivers from corporate organisations on driving skills to reduce accidents on Anambra roads.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Anambra, Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, made the disclosure during a visit to WINCO Foam factory, on Wednesday in Awka.
Irelewuyi said: “There is the need for regular training and recertification of all professional drivers in the employment of the government and private sectors.
“We need a hassle-free motoring in the state and we can only achieve that when we equip drivers with necessary skills that will have cross effects on safe driving in the state.”
The FRSC Boss said that such training would also strengthen partnership with the private sector towards ensuring safety on roads.
He advised corporate organisations to ensure proper documentation of their vehicles to avoid unnecessary embarrassment by road safety officials on the highways.
He also reminded organisations and motorists on the need to always put their vehicles in order before plying the roads.
“Your drivers will not only avoid being disturbed on the highway, but will arrive their destinations on time when their vehicles are properly documented.
“Some will wait until their papers are expired and the vehicles are impounded before they will go for renewal. That is not good, especially for corporate organisations,” he said.
Responding, the Managing Director of WINCO Foam Ltd, Dr Godwin Okafor, appreciated FRSC for the visit.
He appealed for assistance especially in the area of easy movement of goods from the factories to various destinations.
He pledged his support to FRSC in ensuring safer motoring environment in the state. (NAN)
