The Federal Government has engaged 172 Independent Monitors (IMs) to monitor the implementation of the National Social Investment Programme in Sokoto State.
Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, said this in a statement by her Special Assistant on Corporate Communications, Mrs Halima Oyelade on Tuesday, in Abuja
The minister said that the purpose was to ensure effective implementation of the NSIP in the state.
Farouq, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Bashir Alkali, said that the devices were equipped with an application that will be used to report the monitoring activities of the trained IMs.
According to her, all devices distributed for the monitoring of the programme were locally produced in the country and also, the monitoring application was designed by an indigenous company.
The minister charged the IMs not to reassign their responsibilities to a third party and to carry out the assignment with utmost sense of patriotism, diligence and sincerity.
“Each IM is expected to monitor a designated number of beneficiaries of the NSIP for a period of one year starting from June 2021 to May 2022.
“The NSIP include N-Power Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) and Home Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSFP) ,” Farouq said.
According to the statement, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State represented by Hajia Kulu Abdullahi Sifawa, Commissioner for Women Affairs, said that the state had benefitted immensely from the CCT and the NHGSFP.
Tambuwal solicited for more interventions for the state, especially in the remote areas that were not motorable, due to the landmass of the state.
Similarly, the Sokoto State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Abubakar Mode, called on the citizens of Nigeria to support the Federal Government to achieve the objectives of the programme.
Mode said that the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development have Programmes that is focused on bettering the lives of Nigerians.
He expressed gratitude to the ministry and lauded the Sokoto State Social Investment Programmme Operation and Coordinating unit, for the good working relationship and success of the implementation in the State.
Meanwhile, the NSIP Focal Person of the State, Alhaji Hayatu Tafida, implored the IMs to listen attentively to the instructors and follow the guidelines to ensure, the state benefit as expected.
Tafida described the NSIP as the most impactful programmme on the masses of the country.
A beneficiary, Mr Yussuf Bassa from Sokoto North expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for providing the training and devices to monitor the NSIP in the State. (NAN)
