An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded two unemployed men – Felix Ejeh and Kingsley Effiong – charged with unlawful possession of gun and burglary.
Twenty-five-year-old Ejeh, a resident of Ojota, Lagos, and 16-year-old Effiong, who lives at Ogudu, Lagos, are being tried for conspiracy, breaking in and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka, who did not take the defendants’ pleas, directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Layinka ordered that the duo should be kept at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the DPP’s advice.
She adjourned the case until Aug. 10 for mention.
Prosecution counsel, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the defendants and others still at large committed the offences on April 2 at 2:00 a.m. at Ejigbo, Lagos State.
He said that the defendants, armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, broke into a shop with intent to commit felony.
“The defendants armed themselves with gun, cutlasses, iron bars among other weapons.
“They broke and entered into a shop but in the process of perfecting their crime, the defendants were arrested while the others escaped.
“The weapons were recovered from them,” he said.
The prosecutor noted that the alleged offences violated Sections 309, 312 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
