Sequel to outrage and condemnations that greeted the tweet by Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, threatening Nigerians that are “misbehaving”, Twitter has deleted the tweet.
Prompt News reports that President Buhari had on Tuesday, while receiving the Chairman of INEC. Prof Mahmood Yakubu, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, engaged in a subtle threat to deal with agitators, believed to be the people from the south-east.
“Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,” Mr. Buhari had tweeted via @MBuhari.
The comment did not however go down well with many Nigerians who took to their twitter handles to register their displeasure and also reported the tweet to Twitter.
The social media giant, Twitter, while pulling down the ‘offensive” tweet, said it violates its rules, a decision that has been widely applauded by many Nigerians.
