As the sporting world and Tennis fans continue to express surprise over the withdrawal of World Number Two women’s tennis star Naomi Osaka yesterday from the on-going French Open (Roland-Garros), a health expert says she is right to exit the tournament.
Jarrod Spencer, a Sports Psychologist told Cable News Networks (CNN) that sportsmen and women go through a lot of Psychological trauma in the course of practicing their sports hence they are bound to suffer mental health issues.
According to him the expert, Osaka may be suffering from mental health issues as she claimed before exiting the French Open, pointing out that she may not be faulted by taking the decision she took.
Spencer also disclosed that sportsmen and women go through a lot of distractions hence they use headphones whenever they want to be alone.
Osaka had refused to take part in press conferences or interviews and the 23-year-old was threatened with disqualification and a ban from future tournaments if she did not reconsider.
The world No 2 pulled out before opening up about her struggles with depression dating back to her first Slam title in 2018 when talking to the media triggered anxiety.
