The Nasarawa State Government, on Thursday began distribution of relief materials to no fewer than 30, 000 persons displaced by the recent gunmen attacks in parts of the state.
Mr Allumaga Zakary, the Executive Secretary, Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA), said in Lafia that most of the victims were located in Keana, Awe, Doma Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items distributed included roofing sheets, bags of cement, mattresses, mats, bed spreads, mosquito nets, children clothes, wrappers, grains, salts and gallons of palm oil.
Zakary said that Gov. Abdullahi Sule had approved the purchase and distributions of relief materials to the victims to cushion the hardship on them.
He also said that victims of the recent windstorm in Nakere Community in Wamba LGA, where the roof of 98 houses were blown off would also get relief items.
“The relief materials are meant for people who are directly affected in the attack and the victims of the windstorm.
“They will be shared equally in accordance with what we see on ground, it is just a palliative to reduce their hardship,’’ he said.
Zakary said that representatives of the victims were carefully selected from the various local government areas to ensure that the materials received were delivered to them.
Mr Peter Ahemba, one of the representatives of the victims thanked the state government for the gesture, noting that it demonstrated the governor’s commitment to the people’s welfare.
Ahemba assured that the items would be distributed to those they were meant.
He, however, appealed to the state government to hasten up the process of returning the displaced persons back to their communities and the rainy season begins. (NAN)
