Humbled by the outpouring of congratulatory messages that have flooded her mail boxes following her club, FC Barcelona women’s football team’s UEFA Champions League victory over Chelsea women’s team on Sunday, the reigning African Best Female Footballer, Asisat Lamina Oshoala, says she appreciates the love shown to her by fellow countrymen and women.
In a exclusive chat with PROMPT NEWS on Monday, Oshoala who spoke from her base in Barcelona, Spain said she is still relishing the club’s victory and thanked Nigerians who have used several media platforms to felicitate with her over her team’s win.
The Super Falcons Skipper specifically praised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for penning a congratulatory message to her, a gesture she said she was not expecting.
Oshoala was a 71st minute substitute in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final match in Sweden between FC Barcelona feminine once Chelsea FC Ladies of England. Although she did not score a goal on the day, she scored in others matches before the final.
By the achievement, Oshoala has become the first African women’s football player to win the UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy.
The General Secretary of NFF, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi on behalf of the Federation on Monday has also sent a message of congratulation to Super Falcons’ captain for team’s 4-0 bashing of Chelsea to lift the UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy on Sunday.
“We felicitate with Asisat (Oshoala) on the victory of Barcelona and wish her many more medals and honours in her career with club and country”, Sanusi wrote in the message.
Oshoala who is a Four-time Winner of the Africa Woman Player of the Year Award, was Most Valuable Player and Top Scorer of the FIFA U20 World Cup finals in 2014 and has harambeed with the Super Falcons to win successive Women Africa Cup of Nations titles in 2014, 2016 and 2018.
