The Police Command in Kano on Wednesday said it arrested two suspected armed robbers who specialised in terrorising residents of Yankaba and Badawa Quarters, Kano.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to newsmen in Kano.
He said that the suspects were apprehended for being in possession of a Pump Action Rifle on Dec. 22 at about 10:30 p.m., by a team of Operation Puff Adder led by CSP Yunusa Danzomo, while on surveillance patrol at Badawa Quarters, Kano.
“The suspects have been in the wanted list of the command as at Oct. 21.
“During interrogation the suspects confessed to have participated in series of robberies along Hadejia Road by Sheshe Super Market, Yankaba Quarters and Badawa Quarters, Kano.
“The second suspect also confessed to being a dealer of Indian hemp.
“He has been in the wanted list of the command as at Oct.21, and eight bags of Indian hemp were intercepted at Badawa Quarters, Kano with the suspect on the run,’’ Haruna said.
He noted that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Habu Ahmad, had ordered that the case be transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
He added that suspects would be charged to court after completion of investigation.
In a similar development, the command said it had also arrested three suspected criminals who specialised in stealing livestock and house breaking.
Haruna said that the suspects were apprehended on Dec. 24 by a team of Operation Puff Adder, following a complaint that thieves were using tricycles to steal livestock at Dukawuya Quarters, Kano.
“The suspects were apprehended for being in possession of a stolen tricycle. The suspect confessed they stole the tricycle at Kofar Gadon Kaya Jumaat Mosque during Friday prayer.
“He revealed they were in the habit of stealing livestock at Dukawuya, Hotoro, and Naibawa Quarters.
“Also on Dec. 27 at about 3:30 a.m., a complaint was lodged by one Muhammad Mubarak of Kurna Quarters, Kano that thieves broke into his house and stole five cell phones.
“Upon receipt of the complaint, a team of Operation Puff Adder, led by CSP Abdul Mohammed, DPO Rijiyar Lemo Division was detailed to arrest the culprits within 24 hours.
“In the process, the suspect was arrested for being in possession of five mobile phones. The suspect confessed he broke into a house at Kurna Quarters and stole the five cell phones,’’ he said.
He said that the suspect disclosed he had been using a master key to steal motorcycles, adding that he had been stealing motorcycles and cell phones for over five years.
He said that as soon as investigation was completed the suspects would be charged to court. (NAN)
