Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire has said the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccines will be validated by National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) before the vaccines will be approved for use by Nigerians.
Speaking at the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Ehanire revealed that the vaccines when available in the country will not be allowed to be administered on any Nigerian unless the drugs are subjected to a scientific test by NAFDAC.
According to him, the efficacy of many of the vaccines already in use have not been established if they will work for Nigerians hence the need for NAFDAC to carry out scientific evaluation of the vaccines before they approved for use in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the PTF National Coordinator, Dr. Nasir Sanusi has asked states that had earlier shut down their Covid-19 treatment centers to quickly open them back up because of the steady increase in infection cases lately.
According to him the number of people testing positive to Covid-19 disease have continued to grow daily, a situation which he argued showed that second wave of the pandemic is in the offing.
