Nasarawa state governor Abdullahi A Sule has named Mr John Mamman as the new chairman of the caretaker committee of All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasarawa state chapter.
The appointment was made shortly after an emergency party stakeholders meeting, presided by the governor at government house in Lafia, on Thursday.
Recall that the NEC of the ruling party (APC) which is the second highest decision making organ of the party dissolved the structures of the party from the Ward, Local Government, Zone and States levels at its emergency meeting recently.
The action thereby, made it imminent to constitute caretaker committees in the various states to oversee the affairs of the party.
The erstwhile executives in Nasarawa state came to the meeting with mixed feelings but tension was doused when they were asked to maintain their positions, although as caretaker committee in the meantime.
In governor Sule’s words “Since we say we don’t have any problem in the state, and the new caretaker is going to last only six months to have a convention, we said we could use our current excos at the various levels to be our caretakers”.
To fill the lacuna created by the death of the former Chairman, Mr Philip Shekwo, who was kidnapped and murdered few meters away from his residence in Lafia, members of the state party gave governor Sule the mandate to choose the next chairman to head the caretaker committee.
Although it was pointed that the caretaker chairman must be from the same senatorial zone and religion as the deceased chairman.
Mr John Mamman, before his appointment was the Special Adviser to the governor on Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development.
