Residents of Ikole-Ekiti on Tuesday appealed to both the local and state governments to provide the town with amenities.
A cross section of the residents, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), lamented that the town lacked good roads, potable water, good hospitals and constant power supply.
A resident, Mr Gbenga Atunla, said that the roads that led to the palace of the Elekole (the king) have been in deplorable state for years.
Atunla said that the local government council has not been able to provide a lasting solution to the poor roads in the town.
He appealed to the local and state governments to fix all the bad roads in the community.
Another resident, Mrs Felicia Owolabi, said that power supply in Ikole-Ekiti was very poor.
She explained that in Oke-Ijebu area where she lived, electricity was supplied only twice a week and “does not last for two hours’’.
Owolabi said that the residents have met with officials of Benin Electricity Distribution Company but that the latter were always making excuses.
She appealed to the local council to intervene to enable the residents to have adequate power supply before the Yuletide.
Mr Babajide Akinsola, a resident of Ikole-Ekiti, lamented that the community had no potable water.
He explained that most of the wells did not produce potable water, adding that residents usually drank sachet water.
Akinsola appealed to the two governments to provide good water for the community.
Another resident, Mr Bode Awoniyi, lamented that Ikole-Ekiti lacked social amenities in spite of the fact that the town was blessed with grassroots politicians and political office holders.
He appealed to the two tiers of government to provide the community with adequate social amenities. (NAN)
