Following the shambolic result recorded at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City by Nigeria’s Super Eagles against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone, the Minister of Youth and Sports Sunday Dare has questioned the technical ability of Eagles handler Gernot Rohr.
Dare, who initially kicked against the re-engagement of the Franco-German tactician by the NFF, said from what played out last week Friday in Edo State against lowly rated Leone Stars showed that Rohr doesn’t have what it takes to manage our players.
“It is quite unbelievable to see our Super Eagles four goals up in the first thirty minutes of the game conceded the same number of goals within fifty minutes of play. Rohr has spent almost 5 years in Nigeria and he can’t produce first team players.
“For how long can we continue to accommodate mediocrity. Coaching is about hiring and firing. You can’t keep a coach who can’t give you result. So far under Rohr our players have not done better. We remain an average nation in African football.
“Frankly something is wrong somewhere and is high time we address it”. Dare said.
During the tension and media frenzy that surrounded Rohr’s contract renewal, Prompt News recalls that Minister of Youth and Sports insisted that Rohr must up his game if he wants to retain his job.
It was at this point that some people accused the Minister of trying to hire another coach to replace Rohr.
