Piqued by the controversy surrounding the allowances of the Super Eagles as they prepare for their opening game against Iran, Senate President David Mark, has lambasted the Nigeria Football Federation President, Aminu Maigari.
Prompt News gathered that the Senate President during a meeting with the players and the NFF leadership at the Victoria Hotel, in Campinas, Brazil, expressed dismay that Maigari was not being open regarding the allowances due to the players.
Mark, who is the leader of Federal Government delegation to the World Cup therefore, directed the NNF leadership to ensure that the players and coaching crew were paid what is due to them.
It was also gathered that at the end of the meeting, Maigari was made to sign an agreement with the players on how much they would be paid from the proceeds from the football governing body FIFA.
An excited Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, had this to say after Mark’s directive, “Sir, after we listened to you, we are motivated and if you look at the eyes of the players now, they are ready right now to kill. We assure you sir that we will do our best for the country”.
Thereafter, Mark and members of the delegation held a meeting behind closed doors with the players and the coaching team, at the hotel where the lingering problem of unpaid alliances was discussed.
Present at the crucial meeting were Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State; Danagogo; Bala Mohammed, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); Edem Duke, Minister of Culture and Tourism; Mr. Boni Haruna, Minister of Youths and Social Development; Adamu Gumba, Chairman Senate Committee on Sports; Godfrey Gaya, Chairman House Committee on Sports, Maigari, and other top officials of the NFF.
