The first national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ended at the Eagles Square, Abuja early Saturday morning with a former Governor of Edo State, Odigie Oyegun emerging the National Chairman.
His election was by consensus following pressure put on another former governor of Bayelsa, Timipriye Sylva, from the race.
Oyegun, takes over from the Interim National Chairman and former governor of Osun State, Bisi Akande.
Also, following the withdrawal of Kassim Imam, announced by a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, the Interim National Secretary, Tijjani Tumsah, was elected unopposed as the substantive National Secretary.
A former Governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni, emerged unopposed as the National Deputy Chairman (South). He recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Also, Lawal Shuaibu, emerged unopposed as the Deputy National Chairman (North). He is a former National Secretary of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
The Interim National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed was returned unopposed as the substantive National Publicity Secretary.
Meanwhile, delegates still voted to ratify all the candidates so as to satisfy the guideline of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
