The atmosphere at the Dutse-Alhaji area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was tensed Wednesday morning as traders clashed with the police.
Trouble started when officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration moved into the Dutse-Alhaji market, located in Bwari Area Council of Abuja to demolish shops having marked them as illegal.
However, the attempt by the traders and shop owners to resist the demolition was met by the use of force by the police who were deployed to protect the FCDA officials.
In the process of forcing the traders to give way, police fired live ammunition thus, causing commotion as people ran helter-skelter for safety.
As at the time of filing this report, the casualty could not be ascertained as the atmosphere was still tensed.
Meanwhile, because of the security situation in Abuja, the loud gunshot caused panic as some residents of the area thought it was another bomb blast.
Prompt News gathered that the traders had been served with quit notice long time ago by the FCDA officials but refused to move.
