Edo state Governor Godwin Obaseki has thanked the electorates for returning him to power even as his supporters have taken to the streets to celebrate his victory in the Edo State Governorship Election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Sunday afternoon declared Obaseki, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) winner of the Edo state gubernatorial election held on Saturday, September 19, 2020.
Obaseki pulled a total of 307, 955 votes to defeat his arch-rival Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who garnered a distant 223, 619; a difference of a whopping 83, 336 votes.
As soon as INEC declared Obaseki winner of the election, PDP supporters across Edo state especially those in the capital, Benin City took to streets to celebrate the victory.
Prompt News reports that a bare-chested supporter in Benin City was seen sprawling on the muddy water in celebration.
Others were seen dancing and jubilating for the hard fought victory of Obaseki just as it has been confirmed that the whole of Edo state is in celebration mood.
Meanwhile, Governor Obaseki has thanked the electorates for returning him to power, pointing out that without the grace of God and their support victory would have eluded him.
Obaseki who spoke to the media after the Chairman of Edo state PDP Campaign Council and Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike had congratulated him and his Deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu promised to reward the people of Edo with good governance.
