The Controller General, Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Mr Ja’afaru Ahmed on Monday tasked newly decorated senior officers on diligence and discipline.
Speaking at the ceremony in Abuja, Ahmed said that 62 senior officers were promoted, saying 25 were promoted to the rank of Assistant Controller General (ACGs) and 37 to the rank of Controller of Corrections (CCs) respectively.
He directed that those who were yet to be decorated would covered at their various centres after the event following the presidential directives on Covid-19 protocols.
He said that there were many criteria used in selecting those who were promoted, adding that it was important to note that there were limited vacancies for the positions.
According to him, you must continue to be diligent in your various responsibility. You must be competent and disciplined because that is the only way to be elevated always.
“For each added rank, there is an additional responsibility. Ensure you are absolutely loyal to the service.
“There were limited vacancies but you were promoted based on recommendation as pertaining to your hard work and behaviour in delivering the mandate of the service, ” he said.
In his remark, the Commissioner in charge of Appointments and Promotions, Civil Defense, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) Maj. Gen, Emmanuel Bassey (Rtd) congratulated the promoted senior officers.
Bassey noted that the promotion was a reward for their dedication and loyalty to the service.
“Be loyal to the system, service and the nation. You must realise that indeed, you all are lucky besides hard work because the vacancies were few.
“You must also know that promotion comes from God. You have every reasons to give back to the service, ” he said.
The Commissioner in charge of Discipline and General Purposes, CDCFIB, ACG. Ado Ja’afar (Rtd) said that many officers wrote the exams but few were promoted on recommendation.
Ja’afar said that discipline was the cure and not by only been intellectual or by passing the examinations.
“I want to congratulate you all for these rank. We have chosen the best of those who we believe would deliver.
“You see, no matter how intelligent you are, if you are not loyal, hardworking and discipline, you cannot be promoted.
“We took so many things into considerations right from your APER form. I will advise you all to continue with the good work, ” he said.
