Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, said that the ministry was working on an application that would be used by Nigerians to appraise capital projects being executed by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
He disclosed this in a tweet in his verified Twitter handle where he reviewed the achievements of the ministry under his leadership in the last one year of his inauguration as minister.
The minister said this was part of conscious efforts to press for more citizen engagement and participation in government.
In his tweet @ClemAgba at 1:45 pm on Saturday, August 22, 2020, he said: “A year ago, I was inaugurated into the Federal Executive Council by His Excellency, President @MBuhari as the Minister of State, Budget, and National Planning of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Here are some of our achievements so far.
“On January 13, 2020, President @MBuhari signed into law, the Finance Bill, 2019 making it the first time since the return of democracy in 1999 that a National Budget was accompanied by a passage of an enabling Finance Bill.
“With the signing of the 2020 Appropriation Bill on December 17, 2019, by President @MBuhari, we successfully restored the Budget Implementation Cycle to a January – December Calendar.
“We were also able to achieve more citizen engagement in the budget process through public presentation of draft Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), as well as during the budget formulation and approval stages.
“We have commenced the development of the Medium-Term National Development Plans (MTNDPs 2021-2025 & 2026-2030) & the Long-Term Perpective Plan-Agenda 2050-as successor plans to the ERGP & Vision 20:2020.
“These plans are led by the organised private sector & enabled by Govt.
“In line with the President’s desire for transparency in government and in my capacity as the Co-Chair of Open Government Partnership, we have pushed for a more open and accountable government in Nigeria.
“To press for more citizen engagement and participation, @PlanningNG is also in the process of developing a web application that will be used by Nigerians to appraise projects by MDAs.
“We also recently collaborated with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) to organise the first-ever capacity building and skill development programme for all ministerial aides of @NigeriaGov, to enhance their knowledge for improved performance.
“I am eternally grateful to President @MBuhari, GCFR, for the privilege to serve Nigeria and I thank the Honourable Minister of @FinMinNigeria, Dr Mrs @ZShamsuna, for our cordial working relationship, which has enabled these achievements.
