As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) disclosed that about twelve thousand security personnel are billed to oversee the forthcoming Governorship election in Ekiti state, it has been revealed that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state is distributing guns and other lethal weapons to fight opposition against the second term bid of Governor Kayode Fayemi.
Raising this alarm was the Peoples Democratic Party, Ekiti state chapter in a release issued in Ado-Ekiti by its Publicity Committee and signed by its Chairman, Kola Oluwawole.
According to PDP, it has been gathered from a very reliable source that the leadership of APC in a meeting with the Chief of Staff to the Governor Fayemi, Yemi Adaramodu, it was resolved that the arms and ammunitions that has been stockpiled in the government house since last year should be distributed for the purpose of the June 21 governorship election.
Without any opposition to the idea, PDP said that guns and other weapons were distributed to the attendees at the meeting while some were retained by Yemi Adaramodu.
“The meeting which started around 10 in the night lasted till the wee hour of the next day according to the information at our disposal, various decisions aimed at causing mayhem in the state ahead of the isolated election were also taken”
All the 16 Local Government caretaker chairmen were allotted with various numbers of the dangerous weapons as their domains demand while some individuals in government were also given to operate with before, during and after the election, the statement read.
It was also made known in the statement that a marching order was given to the participants at the meeting that thugs assigned to them should be used to cause confusion across the state with specific instructions that some members of PDP should be attacked prior to the election to scare them away from the state so as not to mobilise their members for the election.
Among other decisions taken at the meeting was the grand design to implicate members of the PDP with phantoms of allegation of crime thereby security agents would be invited by the APC to effect the arrest of PDP members who are deemed to be cogs in the wheel of success of the incumbent governor’s second term bid.
“We equally gathered that some of the thugs that will participate in these heinous plans have been brought to Ekiti state in hundreds and are being housed by the APC leaders who were given the weapons to keep in the first instance.”
“We are therefore calling on the Inspector General of police, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission and other relevant agencies to wade in before the APC leaders and their thugs wreck havoc before, during and after the June 21 governorship election.”
