A non-governmental, non-profitable organization, ActionAid Nigeria on Thursday, commenced a two-day workshop on community policing for police personnel in Nasarawa state.
The Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, Mrs Ene Obi, represented by the manager, Humanitarian and Resilient Unit, Mr David Habba said that the training is aimed at strengthening community policing architecture in Nasarawa state.
“The training is in line with objectives of the System and Structure Strengthening Approach against Radicalization to Violent Extremism ( SARVE ll ) phase ll project with funding from Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund ( GCERF)” she said.
Obi maintained that “it is aimed at creating a mutually beneficial relationship between the community and the police, in an effort to scrap or at least reduce to a minimal, violent extremism and crimes in our communities”.
Mrs Obi charged all participants to in turn teach what they learn in the workshop to their colleagues who couldn’t make the training.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of police, Nasarawa state command. Bola Longe, represented by the Assistant Commissioner of police, Suleiman Iki, Area Commander of Akwanga Local Government Area of the state, reiterated the need for unity and cooperation between security agents and community members.
In his own words, “It will be easy for the police to get information at the right time and by so doing, it will assist the police to carry out our duties”.
The two-day training held in Akwanga, Nasarawa state had 27 police personnel in attendance, drawn from different ranks and divisions of the police command in the state.
