President Goodluck Jonathan Thursday enjoined members of the #BringBackOurGirls Family across the country to unite with government in the war against the dreaded Islamist sect, Boko Haram.
The President gave the advice while speaking through the Minister of State for FCT, Olajumoke Akinjide during a peaceful protest staged by the #BringBackOurGirls Movement in Abuja.
The Movement had on Wednesday announced that its members would march to the Presidential Villa, to hold discussion with President Jonathan on the efforts being made to free the abducted girls.
Last month, the dreaded Islamist insurgents, Boko Haram abducted over 200 girls from Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno state and are yet to be released.
The protesters who all dressed in red, carried placards with various inscriptions such as: ‘Bring back our girls and alive now’, ‘We are Chibok women’.
They started a peaceful walk from the Unity Fountain, venue of their daily sit-out in the last 23 days to the Federal Secretariat.
However, they were stopped from proceeding to the Presidential Villa by armed anti-riot policemen.
The #BringBackOurGirls family later settled at the Eagles Square, where they were addressed by top government functionaries led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim.
Delivering President Jonathan’s response, FCT Minister of State, Mrs. Olajumoke Akinjide, said “Our security services are in the field confronting the enemies. They need our support not attacks and discouragement; they are also losing their lives for us.
“When terrorists see Nigerians turn against each other, it gives them a great morale boost.
“We must not lose sight of the fact that the terrorists are the real enemies. We encourage civil society groups to use their influence to encourage Nigerians to supply useful info to security services using the emergency number, 112.
“When a bomb detonates in Baghdad, Kabul, Afghanistan, the people there do not blame the government, they blame the terrorists.
“When a bomb blows up in Nigeria, we must all unite to fight the terrorists. This is the task of this generation. Our daughters must be freed to come home to their parents and loved ones so that they can return to school and continue their education.
“This is our fight. We must unite. The Federal government is united. ”
Prompt News recalls that the Abuja Family of the #BringBackOurGirls have also interfaced with members of the National Assembly as well as the Military High Command on the ongoing efforts to bring back our girls alive.
