No fewer than 118 people have been confirmed killed in the twin bomb explosions that occurred at Jos Terminus Market in Plateau State, north-central Nigeria on Tuesday.
Mohammed Abdulsalam of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), who confirmed this said, “We have now recovered 118 bodies from the rubble.
“This could rise by morning, as there is still some rubble we haven’t shifted,” adding that no fewer than 56 are injured.
Earlier, Nigeria Police had confirmed that at least 46 people were killed in the twin blasts.
Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Chris Olakpe, who confirmed the figure during media briefing however said, the figure could rise since injured people are still receiving treatment in the hospitals.
The first explosion, believed to have been caused by an Improvised Explosives Device (IED) was said to have occurred about 3.00pm at the ever busy Jos Terminus Market.
As people were scampering for safety, the second blast went off barely 20 minutes after and not far from the scene of the first blast.
Olakpe, could not give the exact number of injured persons, saying the scene of the blasts have been condoned off by security operatives while investigation has commenced.
The blasts caused pandemonium as drivers at the terminus and other people around scampered for safety even as smoke was billowed the sky.
As at Tuesday night, no group has claimed responsibility for the blasts.
