By: Godwin Kingsley, Lafia The Executive Chairman of Doma Local Government in Nasarawa state, Henry Omaku, has debunked rumours making the rounds that the on-going screening exercise at secretariat is a witch-hunt mission.
The chairman who made his position known to newsmen on Tuesday said the exercise is meant to sanitize the council from ghost-workers.
He added that exercise is already yielding result as some worked for fear of embarrassment are already tendering their resignation.
“We are ready to cleanse the system which was rotten, a system that was bedevilled by ineptitude leadership. A time when a single person will be holding two appointments at a time or somebody in Abuja will be in the salary schedule of the Local Government. A single person holding double appointment is against the civil service rule.
“The only way for us to expunge doubt in the mind of people in the locality about the existence of ghost workers is to set-up a high-power committee to throw out such category of work force. What we are doing is to set a standard by leaving behind an indelible mark for others to follow”, he said.
Speaking on how to boost the economic potentials of the LG, the chairman said the council has set-up a committee on Revenue collection with a view to increasing tax payment for optimum development.
Omaku added adequate attention would be paid to areas that were ignored or misused by previous administration to boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the LG.
“Last month we generated N200, 000 from the sales of indigent forms. Money that was not accounted by previous administration”, he postulated.
The Chairman however, called on all and sundry to support and pray for the success of his administration.
